Are you passionate about developing the core protocols that drive the Ethereum blockchain? Do you want to get involved in the foundational and technical aspects of the Ethereum protocol? Apply now for the second cohort of the Core Developer Apprenticeship Program (CDAP)!
I’m thrilled to announce that we are now accepting applications for the second cohort of the Core Developer Apprenticeship Program (CDAP)!
What is CDAP
My name is Piper Merriam and I work as a core developer. This means that part of my job involves developing and maintaining the Ethereum protocol. The pace of protocol development has been increasing recently. The “merge” is becoming closer every day, progress is being made towards achieving “Stateless Ethereum,” and we have plans to address long-standing issues in the EVM. There’s no shortage of work to be done, but unfortunately, there is a shortage of individuals with the knowledge and expertise to contribute. This is where you come in.
The CDAP is an initiative by EF to support individuals in entering core protocol development. Here are a few important details:
Applications accepted through September 13thProgram runs from late September 2021 through February 2022Participants will have direct access to the core developer communityParticipants will have the opportunity to work on real projects that have a tangible impact on the Ethereum protocols
The goal of the program is to provide you with firsthand experience of how core protocol development functions and to support your learning about the protocols on which Ethereum is built.
The First Cohort
We initiated the first cohort, “cohort zero,” of the Core Developer Apprenticeship Program (CDAP) two months ago. Since then, approximately 15 developers have been exploring, learning, researching, and contributing. Many of these developers had little to no prior knowledge of Ethereum’s inner workings. Now, after two months, these same developers are undertaking tasks such as:
Working on an alternate method of documenting and specifying the Ethereum protocol.Researching how we can modify or eliminate the SELFDESTRUCT opcode.Assisting in building ZKSync.Developing new peer-to-peer networks for the portal network.Writing their own implementation of the EVM.
With the success of the concept, we are now seeking to launch the second cohort.
Doing something worthwhile
Core protocol development is by far the most impactful accomplishment I’ve experienced in my professional life. I have the opportunity to utilize my expertise and knowledge to enhance and care for a multi-billion dollar protocol. This protocol, in my belief, will play a crucial role in creating a fairer and more equitable future for humanity. I couldn’t say the same about the various “rat-race” jobs I had prior. Interested in joining us to build an exciting future?
