The grants team’s objective is to responsibly manage Ethereum community resources. As part of the Ethereum Foundation’s ongoing efforts to decentralize power within our community, we provide grants that we believe will have the highest impact on the Ethereum ecosystem in the long run.
What is the scope of EF grants?
Funding is only for future work
We strive to avoid favoritism and do not give preferential treatment to one team over others
We do not grant projects at the application layer, although we encourage projects and teams working at the application layer to apply if they are developing open source tools applicable to the wider ecosystem
We do not intend for EF Grants to be an endorsement of a particular project over others.
How do we evaluate applications?
We evaluate the highest impact by considering:
– How important the project is to the ecosystem
– The urgency of the problem
– The extent of work being done on the problem by others
– The value gained from granting the project compared to doing nothing
We are biased towards projects with clear paths towards sustainability to ensure long-term impact on the community resources investment
We look for applicants with relevant experience or proven ability to execute, commensurate with the grant amount
Alignment with Ethereum values
Please note that as we offer non-dilutive capital, we expect to pay a discount on your market rate
We understand that our decision-making process will never be perfect, but we are committed to continuously improving the speed and quality of our decision making process.
